The Venator Hack

You are a venator,  all that stands between humanity and everything haunting the dark. A venator is an ordinary person who wages war against the supernatural. The world is hostile, survival is never guaranteed, and victory is never clean.  Play focuses on competent characters facing impossible odds. The game master provides information freely and honestly, using it to build tension rather than obscure the truth. The core loop of play is investigation, preparation, and confrontation. Investigation uncovers weaknesses. Preparation creates advantages. Confrontation tests whether either was sufficient. Skipping investigation or preparation invites death. Acting too slowly ensures others will suffer first. Venators survive by asking questions early and often, preparing specific tools rather than generic weapons, exploiting discovered weaknesses, acting decisively once the monster is exposed, and accepting retreat as a valid outcome.
